In Progressive America Virtue Has No Value by iMaksim In Progressive America Virtue Has No Value by iMaksim
Satirical propaganda poster commenting on the lack of virtue in wanting your neighbor to buy things for you.

"No free government can stand without virtue in the people, and a lofty spirit of patriotism . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."
- John Adams

What no one thinks about are the people who have no other options. Yes there's alot who abuse welfare, and those people should be punished.

But then there's people that can not get a job due to physical or mental impairments. Those people have no way to make money to care for them selves. They suffer every day, more than any of you can even imagine, and without welfare they would die. All because of greedy people who don't want to pay taxes to take care of those who can't take care of themselves. Where's the freedom in that?

It's dawned on me that socialism is like living with your parents for the rest of you life. Personally, I don't think it's dignified to be completely helpless without the government.

Taking care of one another is not surrender of dignity. Stop projecting your nasty, selfish, compassionless paranoia on progressives.
Being a selfish and hostile jerk who's afraid of helping others is no virtue in ANY world, progressive or not!

in today's America, if you've never worked a day in your life, and don't care to, the government will make sure you don't have to, by paying for your every need through taxpayers. having dignity is no longer a necessity for a good life.

<br / />

in today's America, if you're against the government's views, you are labeled as a "terrorist." Such terrorists include most traditional Christian religions. what happened to freedom?

Your comment is a perfect example of the blind ignorance of collectivism. You wrongly assume two things. The first is, if the government doesn't take care of people no one will. The second is, the government created welfare state is actually helping people.

Your hate and envy makes it impossible for you to consider that a solution outside of big government is possible. I got news for you, not only is it possible it's far more effective.

I pity you for your self-inflicted narrow closed mind.

wouldn't it be nice if you could be your own doctor,  supply your own electricity (for your computers, flatscreen tv etc that you built from scratch), water(dig a well), food (farming & animals), build your own shelter from trees you cut down by your self and cut up, build your own transportation or catch horses, keep the roads well maintained by your self, print your own money or mine your own gold, protect yourself from those that want what you've made by making weapons, what would life be like if you had to depend on your self for everything you need to survive in todays world ...... this is not 1786 ..... this is 2013 ... you need someone to help and hold everything together and true that they are doing what is best for everybody .... I thing things have just gone too far to be pulled back unless a major change is made .... take the "POWER" away from the 1%.

Where did I advocated for the world you mentioned? Are you so dim that you fail to realize that free markets can and do provide everything you listed? What kind of twisted logic is it that thinks the government can do a better job of it?

In a true free market the 1% only has power that we choose to give them. If you don't like how they do business, simply buy from their competitors. Would you rather the government be the 1%? Now thats some dangerous power.

Ah, but your statement, "In a true free market the 1% only has power that we choose to give them," could also be said about an ideal government.  But here we are, in an imperfect world.  So, in my case, I would much rather an elected official concerned with getting more votes lead the country, than a business man concerned with making more money.

...and I have to note that healthcare and free birth control are not good counter-examples to self reliance and self worth.

don't necessarily agree that free birth control is contributing to the destruction of morals, values, or ethics, but the poster is great overall and you're entitled to your opinion. birth control is always a choice, not something forced upon the people. and by people, i mean women.

free birth control on it's own is an idea that's neither here nor there. in this case, it's being presented as the government providing everything you need in exchange for your dignity, freedom of choice, freedom of thought and freedom of action.

I would like to say that although I agree with this poster, I am not conservative. Nor am I liberal. The real propaganda is that you have to be one or the other. There's no longer "Americans", only "Democrats" and "Republicans." How about all of you who are ignorantly attacking each other take a second to actually build your very own personal set of beliefs and not just conform to whatever political party sounds the nicest. Through this personal discovery you will realize that pointing out differences only separates and weakens. We're all just trying to save America from the slippery slope its found itself on with not a whole lot of spare time to argue like children. And as for ya'll who live outside the states: Be aware that if America fails, so does a whole lot of the world. We have our greedy hands mixed up in WAY too many other countries to back out now, so don't be afraid to criticize (Just do it constructively unless you want our extremist idiots to lash out at you).

Pointing out to the existence of a cliff does not create it.
Republican-dominated states functions differently than democrate-dominated states, sometimes they have an even bigger divide than among european countries.
Mind you, republicans are not 100% conservatives by a long shot, especially their leadership.

From what I see, conservatives keeps to the values of the USA, liberals believes they know better (but donīt).
One side is less "american" than the other.

That doesn't change the fact that there will always be people who disagree in America. Only a child would believe that we can just force the entire country to think the same way. Therefore the only means by which we can actually move forward and solve issues is with compromise. Otherwise we risk stagnation and, ultimately, failure.

Indeed, there has but not Well, you should die! type of disagreement.
Not the type of disagreement that makes individuals want to abolish the 1st and 2nd US amendement because they are short-sighted enough to believe it will furthers their self-interests and beliefs.

Compromise only works with someone who actually understand why there should be a compromise, when a large and growing part of the electorat doesnīt have the mentality of spoiled children.

Even worst when the governement itself believes it could and need to be able to impose its decisions regardless of what its subjects thinks.
This intention is why there is this push to ban "assault" rifles and why opposing that is important.

All problems in your own, personal life? Of course there are many liberals who feel that to be the case, it's no straw-man. When you feel such a dependent sense of entitlement that you feel there is no other option than government providing for you your livelihood, retirement, and even your very food, to the point that you advocate that more than half of the property of those more fortunate than you should be forcefully taken to provide those services for you by law, then yes, you feel that big government is a solution to all your problems.

That's a different argument. Universal Healthcare can hardly be compared to that, especially since it's not free, it's a service for which citizen pay for and also benefit
