It’s not a talking point, at least to me. Obama has no more control over gas prices than Bush did—which is why I find it equally hypocritical that liberals bashed Bush for high gas prices during his administration. And even if he did have control, would you want him too? What about the free market? I thought the government wasn’t supposed to intervene?
That's simply the point.... the government HAS intervened leading to higher gas prices. By blocking drilling, pipelines, and by locking up large portions of oil producing lands. I probably agree with you on a great number of things (leaning libertarian) but the federal government can influence prices. The skyrocketing prices of gas are even greater than the Carter era (which I survived!) Let's hope we have as much sense as we did then and vote the idiot out.
I have to agree with you somewhat there. In my opinion, the more likely suspect is our monetary policy. Inflation has severely devalued our dollar, forcing everyone to shell out more Washingtons in order to pay for basic necessities (i.e.: gas prices, healthcare, tuition, etc.). The easiest way to fix most of our economic problems is to fix our money. Funny how that’s not part of our political discussion these days. Hmm…
That's the game politicians have been playing forever: pretend to support needs of the common man, support policies that benefit him. In the end, politics is all about the big bucks, and yet people fail to see right through the charade.
